  • When/where will my cargo/container arrive at the Port?

Only the freight forwarder who arranged for the transportation of your cargo can give you this information.

Call the U.S. Customs Office at (847) 616-4060.

  • How/Where should I apply for employment?

The Port District advertises position openings and does not have job application forms available. Persons wishing to work as stevedores loading and unloading ships should call the Longshoremen’s Union at (773) 374-1170. Persons interested in working aboard ships or barges should first contact the U.S. Coast Guard to obtain a Merchant Mariners Document (can also be obtained from the Coast Guard Web Page under "forms"). Once this document has been obtained and completed, look in the yellow pages under "Marine Transportation" to seek employment.

  • How do I ship cargo to an international destination?
